Since adoption of the reform-and-opening-up policy in the 1980s, China has witnessed rapid economic growth and played an increasingly essential role in the international community. In the context of globalization and regional integration, China has actively participated in international trade and commerce. Thus, an increasing number of overseas students and legal professionals have been seeking proper opportunities to learn about Chinese Law. With instruction fully in English, the LL.M. Program in Chinese Law offered by Renmin Law School provides a unique opportunity for students from abroad, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. All eligible candidates from different legal systems and professional backgrounds are welcome. Previous LL.M. Program students have come from all walks of life: lawyers working in firms, government officials, senior managers, senior consultants, directors, business men and women and others. Renmin Law School Undergraduate Student Program

Renmin Law School undergraduate student program is aimed at cultivating professional legal practitioners. The main courses include: Jurisprudence, Chinese constitution, Chinese Legal System, Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure Law, Criminal Law, the Science of Law, Economic law, Business Law, Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Procedure Law and the Civil Procedure Law, International Law, Private International Law and International Economic Law, Evidence Technology and other nearly 50 selective courses and lectures. It usually takes four years to obtain the diploma. 

Qualification

Students, obtaining a high school diploma, aging between 18 years old to 30 years old, having a non-Chinese passport and respects Chinese law and customs, can apply for this program.

Time and Application Procedure

Time:

From March 1 to March 16

Application procedure:

1. Please visit http://iso.ruc.edu.cn/ and apply on it. (Please kindly keep in order of your ID and password for later checking use)

2. Please Download Renmin University International Student Application form and Guaranty Letter. The guaranty letter should be signed or chopped by guarantor.

3. Please take all the application materials to International students, office of Renmin University for eligibility check and pay 600RMB application fee. Students can entrust someone to do it. Application materials include:

a) International Student Application form and Guaranty Letter

b) High school diploma and official transcript or other relevant certificate

c) Old version HSK-6 and above certificate (New version HSK-5 and each score should be no less than 60)

d) A recommendation letter which should be signed and chopped by applicants, school

e) Hard copies of passport, visa and residential certificate

f) Two copies recently photograph (two inches)

g) Other documents proving your academic capacity and excellence (for example, copies of published academic papers, research outputs and rewards)

Interview:

Place: please visit international students, office website http://iso.ruc.edu.cn/ for updated information. All applicants should attend the paper test and interview. Arts applicants should attend an extra arts test. All paper tests should be written in Chinese.

Admission 

Result released time: May 18

Admission offer released time: May 21 to May 31.

Applicants or its representative might get offers by taking passport and admission ticket. The delegate person should take a letter of authorization signed by the applicants.

Graduate Student Program

Renmin Law School graduate student program consists of Master Program and Doctorate Program.

Qualification

  1. Master Program: applicants should obtain a bachelor degree or above

   Doctorate Program: applicants should obtain a master degree or above

  2. Recommended Master Program Applicants (exempt from examination)

  Excellent foreign students graduated from famous international universities recognized by Chinese Ministry of Education; good at study and proficient in Chinese.

Application Procedure

  a) Visit the website and fill the form

  b) Download Renmin University International Students Master, Doctorate Degree Program Application Form, fill the form and print in A4 paper.

  c)application materials:

    Renmin University International Students Master, Doctorate Degree Program Application Form

    Relevant education certificate and original copy of GPA

    For master program, recommendation letters from two associate professors are needed; for doctorate program, recommendation letters from two professors are needed

    Four recently photos

    Copies of published academic paper, awards and other academic accomplishments

    Personal statement, for master program, no less than 1000 words, for doctorate program no less than 1500 words, all written in Chinese.

  d) Eligibility check.

  During the period from September 10,2014 to May 31, 2015, applicants take all the materials to Renmin University International Students Office for the check. (Saturday and Sunday are not available)

  e) Pay for application fee. Applicants visit room 409, block B, Keyan Building, pay 600 RMB and handover all the application materials. (Saturday and Sunday are not available)

Assessment Methods

  c) Common applicants

  University will arrange paper test and interview.

    Master program: in Chinese (If mother tongue Chinese, write in English). Two tests for its major. 

    Doctorate program: in Chinese (If mother tongue Chinese, write in English). Two tests for its major. If applicants cross discipline, two extra tests for the major are required.

  d) Government Exchange Applicants  

  After checking by our university, applicants can enroll exempt from interview and tests. For master program students, one year course learning is required (Chinese studying excluded). If pass the examination, applicants can continue its study in China, complete its academic paper, obtain master degree. If failing the examination, applicants should leave and go back to its country with a non-degree certificate.

Tuition

  •    Master program 28200RMB per year
  •    Doctorate program 29800RMB per year

  Tuition should be paid within five days after the beginning of the academic year. If applicants unable to do so, he or she should apply for late payment. If the late payment application is approved by the university, the applicants should pay extra 5% overdue fine.

LL.M. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program in Chinese Law, a two-year English Graduate program offered by Renmin Law School, has a focus on Chinese Civil and Business Law, with English as the instruction language. 

Founded in 1950, Renmin Law School became the first leading institution of higher legal education in the People,s Republic of China. Renowned as the “cradle” of law education and outstanding jurists in China, Renmin Law School creates a high-level platform for law education and law exchange between China and the rest of the world. Over the past six decades, Renmin Law School has made lasting contributions to the development of legal education and rule of law in China. Renmin Law School prepares students not only to master the minutiae of the law, but also to lead as global citizens ready and able to tackle some of the world,s most challenging problems.

Recently, China has witnessed rapid economic growth and rising international prestige. Therefore, Chinese law has become an essential source of knowledge as well as a valuable instrument for international students and legal professionals who have business, cultural, academic and political communication with China. Thus, Renmin Law School has established the LL.M. Program in Chinese Law to meet the needs of the international community to gain an inside view of Chinese law from a first-rate legal institution in China.

The duration of the program is 2 years (4 semesters), starting in September and finishing? two years later in July. The first year is full time course-work with class attendance. The second year is thesis writing, legal practice and internship. The LL.M. Program offers valuable internship opportunities to work in law firms and other legal institutions in China to help students apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION

Registration

International students must formally register at the time specified in the Admission Notice.Students who are unable to register on time must write a letter to the International Students Office for late arrival permission. Pre-Departure

Visa Application:

International students may apply for Chinese Visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate. When applying for the visa, please remember to bring along with the passport, the Admission Notice and a Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201/JW202 form). Do make sure that the Admission Noticeand JW201/JW202 form is handed back with the passport after obtaining the Chinese visa. These documents are necessary for Residence Permit application after arrival in Beijing.

Students studying for more than half an year are required to obtain a "X" visa and must apply for aResidence Permit within 30 days of arrival in order to obtain a legal status in China at Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Students are discouraged from arriving in China too early since the application for a Residence Permit won,t be processed until you are registered as a student in RUC.Students studying for half a year or less are required to obtain an "F" visa and "F"visa holders are not required to apply for residence permit.

Accommodation:

Students who want to live on campus please fax the "Room Reservation Notice" to theAccommodation Service Office (Tel: +86-10-62516570; Fax: +86-10-82503204) after receiving the Admission Notice. Since the number of rooms may not be adequate to host all international students, we strongly recommend students apply ASAP after the admission.Students could also choose to live off-campus if there is any appropriate apartment available. Students may find accommodation off-campus by visiting local real estate agents.

Finances:

There are several banks near the campus where international students can open a bank account after arrival in Beijing. We recommend students open an account in Bank of China.Many banks in Beijing accept Traveler,s Checks, however as it takes many working days to process the checks, we recommend students prepare some cash on hand to cover the short-term expenses.With a bank account in Beijing, students may wire-transfer money to this bank account. To be on a safe side, we recommend students prepare some cash on hand to cover the short-term expenses as it takes several working days for the transfer to be completed.

Upon Arrival

Transportation to campus from Capital Airport:

The Beijing Capital International Airport is about 40km away from the campus. There are several options of transportation from the airport to the campus. The International Students Buildings and the International Culture Exchange Center are located in the southern part of the campus, near the East Gate. The International Students Office is on the first floor of International Culture Exchange Center.

Taxi:

The most convenient way to get to RUC from the airport is by taxi. The regular taxi meter-rate is 2 RMB/km. It will cost you around 120 RMB to get to the university from the airport. The cab should enter the campus through the North Gate and drive to International Culture Exchange Center. It will take approximately 1 hour to the campus from the airport. Please keep the receipt for possible inquiry for forgotten belongs in the future.

Shuttle Bus:

The nearest stop to RUC is the Friendship Hotel stop on airport shuttle bus Line 4. The east gate of campus is about 5-minute walk north from the stop. The airport shuttle fare is 16RMB/person and takes approximately 1 hour to the stop from the airport. For more details of the airport shuttle, please visit:http://en.bcia.com.cn/

Subway:

The nearest subway station is Renmin Daxue on Line 4. Students may take Airport Line (RMB25.00) at Terminal 3 or 2, transfer to line 10(RMB2.00) at Sanyuanqiao (三元桥) Station, then transfer to line 4 at Haidian Huangzhuang(海淀黄庄)station, and finally get off at Renmin Daxue(人民大学) station. The east gate of campus is about 2-minute walk north from the station. 

Open a Bank Account:

To facilitate the study life in Beijing, we recommend new students open a bank account soon after arrival. It will be very convenient to pay for such expenses as tuition fees with a UnionPay card.There are several banks near the campus where international students can open a bank account with the passport. The nearest branch of Bank of China is on the first floor of Wenhua Plaza which is about 2-minute walk north from the East Gate of the campus.

Insurance:

Every student must have appropriate insurance throughout the duration of study. The insurance must at least cover accidental injuries and hospitalization. The International Students Office recommends students take the ‘Comprehensive Insurance Plan for Foreigners’ in China. Students not wishing to take the ‘Comprehensive Insurance Plan for Foreigners’ must present an equivalent insurance certificate on arrival. Please note that it must be written either in English or Chinese language. Students without insurance must take the ‘Comprehensive Insurance Plan for Foreigners’. The insurance fee is RMB600 for one year and RMB300 for half a year. Students who are not medically insured are not allowed to register.

Tuition Payment:

Students must have paid the tuition fees on registration. The university only accepts payment in RMB. Students could pay the tuition fees in cash or via UnionPay Card.Students who would like to pay the tuition fee via UnionPay Card should open a bank account in a local bank at Beijing and apply for a UnionPay Card. The UnionPay Card functions as a Debit Card and is commonly used in China.Students who would like to pay the tuition fee in cash should convert the foreign currencies into RMB first.
